Choosing the Right Dog Harness
For many dogs, a harness is an important piece of equipment used in their everyday life. You see, some dogs have a serious problem of getting choked when they are wearing a collar and leash. This happens because when a dog tries to tug while he is attached to a leash, the force is sent to his neck where the collar is attached. A strain on the neck as such can lead to breathing problems, gagging, vomiting, and skin damage. A harness, on the other hand, attaches underneath the dogs body, allowing any force to be distributed there.
After you've made the choice for your dog to wear a harness instead of a collar, it is time to go shopping for one. If you haven't done any harness shopping in the past, you may feel a little lost at times. There are many different types and styles of harnesses on the market, and unless you know what you are looking for, it can be pretty confusing at time.
Before you start searching for a dog harness, you need to find out the measurements and weight of your dog. Simply take a measuring tape and measure the length and width of your dog. After that, place your dog on a weighing scale, or hold your dog while you are on the scale, and write down what they weigh. Most harnesses have sizes measured by weight, but some do measurements.

dog walking aid harness halti or othe?
i have a patterdale cross i rescued him from the dogs home i am having to train him all over as he appears to not have recieved any we are doing well but he is two years old and stubborn / strong willed but very loving my main problem is pulling and being over excited on the lead he loves his walk so much he goes mad on the lead i look like i have no control he is better coming back but going is awfull i stick to my stopping on the spot till he calms and stops pulling i have rewards and it is working but he is so excited he wont concentrate on commands im going to try a walking aid ie a halti or harness or any other but need advice any thoughts on which is best he is fairly small but very strong i think he may have a bit of staff in him
Try the halti it takes a bit of getting use to for the dog but it does help. I sometimes walk 4 Golden retrievers at once they are fine walked alone, I walk them on a normal collar and leash, but when walked altogether, if approached by other dogs they can get carried away with the pulling, the halti's definitely makes it easier. The other thing you can try is a check chain and put it high up on the neck, just behind the ears, not low on the neck.
